He replaces Marc Demmer, who is now a working as Technical Expert (Social Outreach and Local Development) for PT Freeport Indonesia.

Malesela is no stranger to the Ba-Phalaborwa community. He worked in 1992 and 1993 as a Physical Science subject coordinator at the Palabora Foundation with Preston Khomo and Marc Demmer, who were the senior managers of the Foundation at that time.

Malesela rejoined the Palabora Foundation in 2008 as its operations manager, having gained tremendous experience serving in various capacities in the Gauteng province, most recently as chief executive officer of the PROTEC national office. PROTEC (Programme for Technological Careers) is a non-government organisation dedicated to the development of mathematics and science educators and learners.

“Mathematics and science are the cornerstones of development in all spheres of life”, says Malesela. Those educators who were fortunate to have attended Malesela’s science workshops in the early nineties will recall the passion, enthusiasm and the devotion to duty displayed by Malesela, who is a role model to the educators. He is a dedicated, hard-working and talented person whose life is devoted to the improvement of mathematics and science education.

The Ba-Phalaborwa community can be confident that Malesela Letsoalo will continue the exemplary leadership displayed by his predecessor, maintaining the Palabora Foundation as a role-model community builder in Phalaborwa. We wish him all the best!
