Deon Besselaar and Denver Warne with the ever enthusiastic PROTEC students at Leboneng Education CentreGears Technologies in Phalaborwa heard about the immense contribution by the PROTEC Phalaborwa branch in producing engineers, technologists and artisans and decided to pay a visit to the Palabora Foundation’s Leboneng Education Centre in Namakgale recently.

Deon Besselaar and Denver Warne from Gears Technologies were quite impressed with the PROTEC programme and expressed their willingness to sponsor some of the PROTEC students to become qualified artisans.

In today’s machine tool market, productivity, process development and software innovation are essential as manufacturers look to reduce costs, shorten lead times and improve quality systems. Those involved in research and development continue to come up with fundamental machine tool advancements in their pursuit to maximize efficiency on the manufacturing floor.

PROTEC students are well disciplined, hard working and highly innovative. They are in high demand everywhere. The Gears Technologies company in Phalaborwa is customer-oriented and is looking for innovative people. Involving the customer upfront with product research and development is the best option in today’s environment to come up with new technologies. The customer is directly or indirectly the source and inspiration for most innovation. Those companies which pay attention to the voice of the customer prosper and survive in this highly competitive world.

On 5 and 7 August, Gears Technologies will be taking the PROTEC grade 10 students for a visit to their company to motivate the learners to follow the career of their dreams. This visit is being coordinated by their World of Work tutor, Hannelie Beetge.

Palabora Mining Company, Foskor Ltd and Sasol Nitro are the major sponsors of the PROTEC programme in Phalaborwa. The other sponsors are Standard Bank, Ba-Phalaborwa Municipality, Lepelle Northern Water, GAGE Specialists, Professional Career Consultants,  Mopani South-East FET College, Phalaborwa Chamber of Business, Eskom and the Department of Education.
