Another PROTEC success
2007-04-20
Themba Mdumela, a former PROTEC and Master Maths student, recently completed
his honours degree in Town and Regional Planning – BSc TRP (Hons) – from
the University of Witwatersrand.
Themba, formerly a student of Majeje High School in Lulekani, emphasised the significant role that PROTEC and Master Maths played in his remarkable achievement. “I was uncertain about what I wanted to pursue at tertiary level, but PROTEC guided me”, says Themba. He thanked the Ba-Phalaborwa Municipality for awarding him with a bursary which covered 100 per cent of his tuition and lodging fees. He added, “I am very grateful to all the sponsors of the PROTEC programme in Phalaborwa for establishing the PROTEC and Master Maths programmes which are helping many school going children to obtain very good symbols in mathematics and science at matric, which enable them to be admitted to various tertiary degree courses in engineering and technology”.
The main sponsors of the PROTEC programme in Phalaborwa are the Palabora Mining Company, Foskor Ltd and Sasol Nitro. The other board members are the Ba-Phalaborwa Municipality, Lepelle Northern Water, Standard Bank, the Phalaborwa Chamber of Business, the Department of Education, Professional Career Consultants, GAGE Specialists, Mopani South East FET College, Eskom, the Greater Phalaborwa Principals’ Association and the Namakgale and Lulekani Parent Committees.
